Cloud Computing Data Centre Locates in Monaghan
Cased Dimensions have established central Ulster’s first ‘Cloud’ computing Tier 2 Data Centre with support from Cavan-Monaghan LEADER. This new data centre provides data storage services and solutions to international companies with 90% in the export market. Since completing the project, Cased Dimensions has created 4 additional jobs and secured a Managed Services contract with a FTSE 100 client based in England.
Liam Murray, Managing Director of Cased Dimensions, commented "Monaghan was the ideal location of this data centre due to the investment in infrastructure which has taken place over the years. We are surrounded by 5 power plants which are spread across two electric grids and we have diverse redundant dark fibre network connections from Atlas and Hibernia at our location to Dublin, Belfast, Derry and Cork. The combination of electricity supply and availability of dark fibre data connections (international broadband) is second to none on this island and is here in Monaghan. Without support from Cavan-Monaghan LEADER, the project would not have been possible.”
There are a large number of data storage centres located in Ireland owned by global players including Microsoft, Yahoo, Amazon and Vodafone to name a few. Ireland has become an attractive location for data storage centres because of our ambient climate. The data centres create considerable heat and in other countries they require expensive air-conditioning units to maintain a regulated temperature. In Ireland, this is mainly achieved by the wind.
The development of this centre was made possible by the investment of Interreg & IFI funding in the dark fibre network to the MTEK building in 2005 in a project led by Monaghan County Enterprise Fund. John Toland Cavan-Monaghan LEADER stated that “this project will raise the profile of the Monaghan as a base for technology based companies and that Cased Dimensions has potential for further growth & job creation”. Cavan-Monaghan LEADER is a joint venture between Breffni Integrated Ltd. and Monaghan Integrated Development Ltd. for the delivery of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 in counties Cavan and Monaghan.
